Ronaldo brushes off Rooney threat
Cristiano Ronaldo today brushed off the threat posed to Portugal by England and their star teenage striker by insisting: “We are not afraid of Wayne Rooney”.
The 19-year-old Manchester United winger is expected to line up for Portugal in Thursday’s Euro 2004 quarter-final in Lisbon, but Ronaldo claimed that the hosts have to be wary of others in the England side as well as 18-year-old Rooney, currently the tournament’s leading scorer.
