Swiss star facing UEFA probe

UEFA were today investigating an alleged spitting incident in which Steven Gerrard is said to have been targeted by Switzerland striker Alexander Frei.

The Euro 2004 disciplinary authorities were collecting evidence before deciding whether to bring the tournament’s second spitting charge.
