Heinze awaits news of his United role
Gabriel Heinze has revealed he has no idea which defensive role he will fill when he joins Manchester United.
The 26-year-old Argentina international is expected to complete his move to Old Trafford today after reportedly passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
The transfer fee is believed to be around £6m (€9m).
Manager Alex Ferguson has been looking to strengthen his defensive options with Rio Ferdinand receiving an eight-month ban for missing a drugs test.
Heinze said: “We have not yet discussed which position I will play.
“I don’t know whether it will be in central defence or left-back. All they said is that they wanted me.
“They have shown great motivation to snatch my services even though I did not talk directly with Sir Alex Ferguson.”
Heinze said United made an initial approach about six weeks ago.
“I did not want to talk about it out of respect for PSG, considering our end of season was very important, “ he told L’Equipe.
“My manager (Roberto Rodriguez) took care of everything. When such a club wants you, of course you think carefully about everything.
“But signing for Manchester United does not secure a first-team status with the Argentina national team.”
Heinze joined PSG from Valladolid in Spain in 2001 and spent three seasons in Paris where he imposed his style.
“I have progressed a lot and leave with a lot of pride even if I feel sad,” he said.
“I will always remember the supporters and will never forget the minute’s silence that was so much respected when my father died this year.
“I leave a club and a city who gave me a lot of emotions, but that’s football, that’s life.”
