Molloy gets unwelcome second award

Player of the month Trevor Molloy got an award of a different kind today when he picked a one-match ban from the eircom League Disciplinary Commission.

The Shamrock Rovers striker was lauded yesterday when he was named eircom/Soccer Writers Association Player of the Month for May, but the Commission sat last night and handed Molloy his suspension after the player accumulated four disciplinary points.

The ban takes effect from June 23, meaning Molloy is scheduled to miss Rovers’ trip to Tolka Park to take on current bottom club Dublin City, as will Hoops' team-mate Mark O’Brien and the Vikings’ Paul Crowley, both punished for the same offence.

Other Premier Division players receiving one-match bans effective from June 23 are Cork City duo George O’Callaghan and Danny Murphy and Longford Town’s Barry Ferguson.

The Cork pair will not be available for the home game against Bohemians while Ferguson will have to sit out that Saturday night’s home clash with Drogheda.
