Queiroz says he will be next United boss

Former Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz claims he will be favourite to succeed Alex Ferguson once he returns to Manchester United as assistant manager.

Queiroz is expected back at Old Trafford only a year after leaving the club to take over at Spanish giants Real.

He was sacked by Real last month after the club ended the season without a trophy for the first time in five years.

Real were only fourth in the Spanish Primera Liga, meaning they will have to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and Queiroz’s reign ended with an unprecedented five-game losing run.

But he is convinced he will team up with Ferguson again soon, and told the Daily Mail: “It’s practically a done deal. There are just some legal details to sort out.

“Manchester United’s offer is not one to turn down. It is a long-term contract which puts me as favourite to become club manager.”
