Carlos Queiroz has emerged as a leading contender to become Tottenham’s new coach after director of sport Frank Arnesen admitted he had held talks with the former Real Madrid chief.

“We are effectively in negotiations with Carlos Queiroz for next season,” Arnesen told Portuguese sports newspaper O Jogo.
