Addicks snap up Andersen

Charlton today swooped to make their first signing of the summer by capturing Danish international goalkeeper Stephan Andersen from AB Copenhagen.

The 22-year-old has joined the Addicks for eight million kroner – the equivalent of €1.1m.

Charlton manager Alan Curbishley told the club’s official website, www.cafc.co.uk: “We are delighted to have signed Stephan.

“He is considered by many to be a very exciting prospect and will bring extra competition to the goalkeeping area at the club.”

Andersen started his career at Brondby and joined AB (Akademisk Boldklub) Copenhagen from Hvidovre in 2002.

He was capped 21 times by Denmark U21s before stepping up to the full national team – alongside new Addicks team-mate Claus Jensen – in March 2004 when he made his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat against Spain in Gijon.

Andersen has also been included in Denmark’s Euro 2004 squad by national manager Morten Olsen, when he will be challenging Thomas Sorensen for the number one jersey for the group matches against Italy, Bulgaria and Sweden.
