Gary Megson has not yet given up on finishing the season as First Division champions, but admits West Brom are already planning for life back in the Barclaycard Premiership.

The Baggies trail Nationwide League Division One leaders Norwich by five points with just two matches left to play and must beat Stoke tonight to maintain their title challenge.

The top two have already secured their place in the top flight next season and Megson concedes everyone at the West Midlands club has started turning their attention to next season.

“It’s strange at the moment because we have been talking about taking each game as it comes all season. But now we have got promoted, we have started looking way, way beyond where we are,” said Megson on the club’s official website, www.wba.co.uk.

“So much so that I was talking to the chairman at 1pm on Saturday before the Reading game about trying to bring a player in for next season.

“Winning promotion with four games to go has given us three extra weeks of preparation time.”
