Celtic superiority reflected in table - Lennon

Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon insists the 19-point gap over Rangers in the Bank of Scotland Premier League is a “true reflection” of the Hoops’ superiority this season.

The 2-1 win at Ibrox moved the Parkhead club to within touching distance of the title and, if they win against Hearts on Saturday and the Light Blues lose at Motherwell, the third SPL trophy in four years will be resident in the east end of Glasgow.

Lennon told the Evening Times: “Without a doubt, it’s a true reflection.

“We have been head and shoulders above anything in the country this season.

“Our performances against Rangers have been excellent, under very trying circumstances.”

But the former Northern Ireland international was particularly delighted to prove some critics wrong after failing to win any trophies last season.

Lennon added: “It really hurt to lose the title last season.

“You don’t have time to dwell on it. Four in a row would have been a tremendous achievement but it was probably asking a bit much considering the efforts we put in last year both at home and in Europe.

“But, this season, we have improved again when I didn’t think we could.

“A lot of people thought we were too old, that last season might have been the break-up of the team and that the players here were not good enough.

“But, we have answered everything.”
