Bobby Charlton today admitted Manchester United are “hurting” after the devastating month which saw their Champions League dream shattered and their Barclaycard Premiership title hopes all but mathematically ended.

United legend Charlton, a club director, revealed the pain he and the red half of Manchester have felt as Porto dumped Alex Ferguson’s side out of Europe’s top club competition and Arsenal advanced to within touching distance of United’s Premiership crown.
