Ince targets another big achievement
Paul Ince says keeping Wolves in the Barclaycard Premiership would rank alongside winning the league title with Manchester United as the biggest achievement of his career.
Ince has been accustomed to being involved at the top end of the table for the majority of his illustrious career.
But the former England midfielder would gain as much satisfaction from preventing Wolves from making a quickfire return to Nationwide Division One.
And he believes Dave Jones’ side have a realistic chance of avoiding the drop as they enter the final stretch of the campaign – despite returning to the bottom three after Portsmouth’s draw with Newcastle yesterday.
Ince told The Press Association: “If we stay up it will mean a lot to me and be a big achievement considering my age and the fact I am still performing at the highest level in the Premiership.
“For me personally it would be just as big an achievement as winning the FA Cup and the league title with Manchester United.
“When you are playing for United, you know that you are going to beat teams for 95% of the time but this is a harder kind of pressure.
“If you go down, it could take us another 19 years to get back into the Premiership. If we stay up it will be great and up there with everything else I have done in the game.”
Ince admitted: “We’ve got a big game coming up with Aston Villa in two weeks time and if we win that then we’ve got a chance.
“Before we have been relying on other people’s results but I feel we can stay up by what we are doing ourselves with the way we are now performing,
“I don’t think we have got to keep relying on other people to do us a favour which has been the case the last two or three weeks. The confidence is rising amongst our lads that we can do it.”
