Dunn facing six-week lay-off

Birmingham midfielder David Dunn faces up to six weeks on the sidelines following his latest hamstring setback.

He underwent a scan on his leg on Friday and Steve Bruce is expected to receive the results in the next 24 hours.

But the City boss confirmed that Dunn, who went off after only eight minutes of Wednesday's FA Cup replay with Sunderland, appears to have torn the hamstring.

Dunn had only just returned to action after a month on the sidelines with a similar problem.

Bruce said: "Obviously we have to see what the specialist has to say but it certainly looks like a tear.

"If that is the case, then we will probably be looking at David being out of action for four to six weeks at the very least.

"It is a big blow to us and at the moment all three of our creative players - David, Stan Lazaridis and Christophe Dugarry - are all out of action."

Dunn had been challenged earlier in the week by Bruce to stake a claim for a place in England's squad for the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal.

But, even if he is back within a month, he will now have little opportunity to impress Sven-Goran Eriksson before he has to announce his final 23 for the summer.

Meanwhile, Dugarry will return to Birmingham on Monday after a short break back in his native France while he recuperates after his knee setback.

Dugarry is ineligible for City's next match against Middlesbrough at St Andrews on Wednesday after accruing five bookings.
