No magic answer to Leeds problem, says investor
Former Huddersfield chairman Terry Fisher, who is leading a consortium of “serious” businessmen trying to save troubled Leeds, has admitted there is “no huge benefactor like Roman Abramovich” ready to instantly wipe out the club debts.
Fisher, who heads up a second Yorkshire-based group interested in helping the Elland Road club, told the Yorkshire Post: “I have been asked to get involved in the consortium by the people at Zeus Capital [corporate finance specialists] because of my football background as a Leeds United supporter and also due to my experience as chairman of Huddersfield Town.
“It can only be done, however, if we have the support from other businessmen within Leeds. We have had some support already but we are looking for more so we can strengthen our position still further.”
But he warned: “Nobody is in a position to throw millions of pounds at this project, there is no one huge benefactor like Roman Abramovich. We are a group of businessmen who need to make sense of the numbers.”
