Yorkshire consortium confident of Leeds deal

A Yorkshire-based consortium insist they are still "going in the right direction" in their bid to take over Leeds United.

A Yorkshire-based consortium insist they are still "going in the right direction" in their bid to take over Leeds United.

The club were granted a fifth extension to the "standstill agreement" with their principal creditors until February 27.

And Gerald Krasner, a representative for the Yorkshire-based group, was upbeat about the chances of a deal being struck.

He said: "We think we have progressed this week. We are going in the right direction. We are optimistic that a successful conclusion will be reached."

Although talks with the Yorkshire-based group are at an advanced stage, last week it emerged that the apparent £20m (€29m) bid will not realise any value for the shareholders.

Talks have now been ongoing for almost three weeks between the club, consortium and creditors - bondholders M&G, MetLife and Teachers, player-leasing agents Registered European Football Finance Ltd, as well as the Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise.

Earlier this week Ugandan tycoon Michael Ezra announced he had made a £60m (€88m) bid for Leeds, one the club have so far denied.
