Blues chief lines up Chivu swoop

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is confident of signing Romania captain Cristian Chivu from Roma.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is confident of signing Romania captain Cristian Chivu from Roma.

The defender’s agent has claimed both the Blues and Manchester United have made enquiries over Chivu.

But Abramovich told the News of the World: “Chivu will come to England only for Chelsea and he will be my golden boy.

“We want and we need Chivu and we will make a better offer than Manchester United.”

One obvious advantage in moving to Stamford Bridge for the 23-year-old would be to link up with compatriot Adrian Mutu.

Chivu added in the same newspaper: “I would love to play with my friend Adrian in the same team. He is a fantastic player who does so many good things for Chelsea.”
