Eriksson in 'no rush' to sign new deal
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson tonight insisted he is in “no rush” to sign the new contract offered to him by the Football Association.
But the Swede does plan to hold talks with the FA about teir offer in the new year.
Eriksson’s current deal runs up to the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany and the FA have offered to extend it to 2008, taking in the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland.
“We have talked about it once and we are going to sit down and talk again after the new year,” Eriksson told Sky Sports 1. “We will discuss it then.
“Of course I am thinking about it but it is a long commitment until 2008. We will see what is happening in January and February. There is no rush, I still have a long contract.”
Eriksson, who was unhappy that the new contract offer was made public, admitted that he was nevertheless flattered by the FA’s faith in him.
“It is very nice of them, especially when I already have a contract that goes until the next World Cup,” he added.
