Juan Pablo Angel’s two-goal blast moved Aston Villa out of the bottom three of the Premiership – but left Wolves in deep relegation trouble as a splendid second-half rally ultimately proved in vain for Dave Jones’ side.

Angel took his overall tally for the season into double figures and just for good measure played a significant role in the build-up to the decisive third goal from midfielder Gareth Barry.

Wolves dominated the final stages of the game and Postma was again called into action to beat out a powerful drive from the impressive Rae.

But with 10 minutes left the stand-in ’keeper was beaten by Kennedy’s low drive after the winger had taken a pass from Miller in his stride.

It set up a gripping finale as Villa were hustled out of their stride and forced to clear the ball anywhere but they managed to hold on for a vital three points.
