Sunderland ended a miserable day off the field with a brave performance on it as they beat Gillingham 3-1 at the Priestfield Stadium

The victory hoists the Black Cats, who earlier today announced a pre-tax loss of £20.6 million for the year ending July 31, into fourth spot in Division One and they now lie just a point behind the automatic promotion places.
