Leeds working with police over sex attack claim

An investigation into an alleged sex attack on a young woman was continuing today, with Premiership club Leeds United pledging to co-operate on the matter.

Two men were arrested and questioned about the alleged serious sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman in Leeds on Monday.

Neither the club nor West Yorkshire Police was prepared to release further details of the incident but it was widely reported that the two men were Leeds United players.

Neither the club or the police would confirm or deny the reports, but Leeds United said it was co-operating with the police investigation.

“Leeds United Football Club has been advised by West Yorkshire Police of an ongoing investigation, and in line with club policy full co-operation has been extended to the police,” it said in a statement.

“Any further comment cannot or will not be made by the club until the police investigation has been concluded and the club informed of that conclusion.”

A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “We are currently investigating an alleged serious sex assault on a 20-year-old woman in Leeds.

“Two men have been arrested and are currently being questioned in connection with the incident.”

Police refused to give any further information, including where the alleged assault took place or the ages of the men.
