All square at break at Ibrox

Rangers 0, Celtic 0 (half-time)

It was all square at half time at Ibrox with Celtic having the better chances as Rangers goalkeeper Stefan Klos was required to deny Alan Thompson and then John Hartson.

In the 24th minute Celtic made a change when Thompson limped off to be replaced by Michael Gray, with the on-loan Sunderland man going to left back as Celtic switched to a four-four-two formation, which meant Jackie McNamara switched to right-back.

Berg headed a high ball from McNamara behind for a corner which the Norwegian headed away before John Hartson could get there.

But Celtic kept the pressure on and twice Petrov was free in the box. The first time he slipped and the danger was gone but on the second occasion he squared the ball perfectly for Hartson.

The Welshman was just beyond the penalty spot and fired in a low drive that Klos did well to tip away.

Rangers responded with a clever free-kick move after Didier Agathe had chopped Peter Lovenkrands down on the left.

Arteta played it deep to where the Dane was lurking outside the box and his low shot was only just wide of Hedman’s left-hand post, with referee Mike McCurry ruling it had not taken a deflection off a defender.

Celtic had to defend desperately for a while but when a counter-attack was successfully launched in stoppage time Zura Khizanishvili was booked for bringing Petrov down.
