Caretaker Derry City manager Gavin Dykes has been handed the role on a permanent basis, it was confirmed today.

Caretaker Derry City manager Gavin Dykes has been handed the role on a permanent basis, it was confirmed today.

The position opened up after Dermot Keely walked out of the club after the Candystripes lost to UCD.

UCD are the only club below Derry in the eircom Premier Division and are now within touching distance of Derry.

Dykes had served as Keely's assistant. Under Keely the team failed to win in seven games.
