Former Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale is to remain one of the beleaguered club's major shareholders.

Ridsdale, who has taken over at neighbours Barnsley, told the Yorkshire Post: "I am keeping my shares in Leeds United because I believe in the future of the club.

"I have been a Leeds supporter all of my life and I see no reason why that should change now. It is all above board.

"I checked with both the Football League and Football Association and they informed me that I would not be breaking any laws in keeping them."

The newspaper reports that Ridsdale spent about £300,000 (€431,000) buying around three million shares which in today's market are worth just £97,500 (€140,000).
