PSG to announce Yakin plans
Paris St Germain could sever their ties with Swiss midfielder Hakan Yakin and send him back to Basle after he underwent a hernia operation without their permission and against the French club’s instructions.
Club president Francis Graille said yesterday that PSG would be making an official statement later in the day regarding Yakin’s situation.
And it is expected that they will try and cancel his transfer from the Super League club which was thought to have been concluded last month, but which PSG now claim has not yet been 100% finalised.
Graille said: “I can’t yet tell you what we will be saying, but we will be delivering a statement later today to outline our position regarding Hakan Yakin.”
The fee for Yakin was £1.5m (€2.14m) and it is not known for certain whether Basle would object to Yakin rejoining them.
They were unhappy to lose their star man so the likelihood is that they should welcome him back, but the player may be less happy about returning to Swiss football, and he would most likely have to accept a pay cut.
He went against PSG’s wishes by having the hernia operation on instructions from his GP, Heinz Buhlman, when the French club’s doctors diagnosed only a groin inflammation.
Last Thursday, PSG boss Vahid Halilhodzic hinted that Yakin may have no future at the Parc des Princes.
The club claim there is a clause in Yakin’s contract which says that as long as the signature is not approved by the French Football Federation and the Ligue de Football Professionel, then Yakin remains Basle’s responsibility.
He has yet to play for PSG due to injury and has not yet been officially registered, even though both sides announced the transfer last month.
