Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn has turned down the chance of a move to Chelsea in order to fight for his place at Elland Road.

Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn has turned down the chance of a move to Chelsea in order to fight for his place at Elland Road.

The 37-year-old stopper is now considered number two at Leeds to Paul Robinson - but has declined the chance of a move to Stamford Bridge, where new owner Roman Abramovich has embarked on an ambitious recruitment policy.

Chelsea were reported to be prepared to offer £500,000 (€709,000) for Martyn, but he is settled in Yorkshire and has snubbed a move.

The competition at Chelsea is already hot, with regular number one Carlo Cudicini backed up by new signings Jurgen Macho and Marco Ambrosio.
