Saints have home tie for final

Longford Town and St Patrick’s Athletic will contest the 2003 eircom League Cup final at Richmond Park on August 25, after the Saints were drawn at home last night.

The tie will be decided on the night. If the sides are level after 90 minutes' play, 30 minutes of extra-time will be played. If the sides are still level after extra-time, a penalty shoot-out will decide the winners.

This is the Saints’ fourth eircom League Cup final appearance, having won the competition for the only time in the 2000/01 season and finishing runners-up in the 1979/80 and 1992/93 competitions.

They reached the quarter-final last time out (2001/02), losing 3-2 to Bohemians after extra-time.

Longford Town, the 2001 FAI Senior Cup Final runners-up, have yet to win a major domestic trophy and this will be their first ever appearance in an eircom League Cup Final.

They previously reached the quarter-finals in the last two competitions - and in three of the last four competitions. They went out of the eircom League Cup to Shamrock Rovers in 2001/02, losing 6-1 at home.
