Arsenal want me, says keeper Cordoba

Colombian goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba has claimed a move to Arsenal could be imminent.

Cordoba is currently registered as a player for Besiktas, the Turkish club he joined permanently last week from Boca Juniors, but he said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had made him a prime summer target.

Besiktas had the option to buy at the end of a season-long loan deal and chose to exercise their right but they are, according to Cordoba, engaged in negotiations with Arsenal.

Arsenal let David Seaman leave for Manchester City on a free transfer at the end of last season and currently have Stuart Taylor, Rami Shaaban and Guillaume Warmuz on their books.

Cordoba cost Besiktas a fraction above £1m (€1.44m) when he joined from Boca Juniors, and the Turkish club would be looking for a healthy profit on their investment.

The 33-year-old said: “I know that the negotiations are going well, and that the agreement could be sealed in any moment.

“I would love to play for Arsenal. It’s one of the best clubs in the world and they’re always fighting for big things. I’ve already played for big teams.

“In Boca Juniors we won many titles, we won two Copa Libertadores and got the Intercontinental Cup, beating Real Madrid in Japan.

“If I could do that, I’m ready to play in Arsenal or any team in the world.”
