Utd allow Queiroz to head to Madrid
Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz has been released by the club to allow him to become Real Madrid boss later today.
Queiroz was highlighted as the Spanish champions’ number one target yesterday by Real president Florentino Perez and when Sir Alex Ferguson told today’s Daily Mail: “This is a wonderful opportunity for him, too big a chance to turn down,” the deal was as good as done.
A statement from the Old Trafford club confirmed their decision to allow Queiroz to leave.
It read: “Manchester United have agreed to release Carlos from his contract so that he can join Real Madrid.
“We thank Carlos for his contribution to Manchester United’s success last season and wish him well in his new job.
“A replacement for Carlos will be sought in due course.”
Queiroz is likely to be unveiled at a press conference in Madrid at 5.30pm Irish time.
