We deserve something - Agathe
Didier Agathe insisted the Celtic players and their loyal supporters do not deserve to end the season without a trophy.
The club are trying desperately to pick themselves up from a major low after losing the UEFA Cup to Porto in extra time on Wednesday night.
Now they are staring at the possibility of ending the campaign empty-handed as they go to Rugby Park on Sunday in a dramatic last day of the Bank of Scotland Premier League.
They are behind Rangers by just one on goal difference at the moment, but the winger is determined to give their fans something to savour from a thrilling campaign.
Agathe said: âIf we play like we did on Wednesday night then we donât deserve to lose.
âSometimes you donât get what you want in football, but I would like to win it for the fans. They donât deserve to finish without a trophy.
âThe supporters were great and they all know we tried our best. We will do whatever we can and I would like to think we can win the championship.â
But despite the obvious dejection of missing out on the UEFA Cup, the former Hibernian favourite insisted it was their job to haul themselves back to their feet.
âOf course we are disappointed,â added Agathe. âBut the way we played was great.
âThe way we came back first from 1-0 down and then 2-1 down I thought we were going to win. We deserved to win.
âWe showed we could come back at any time and I am gutted to lose. We showed a lot of effort to come back twice.
âI am disappointed we lost the final, but we will look back on it with pride. We did great to get to the final because we beat a lot of good teams to get here like Celta Vigo, Stuttgart and Liverpool, but to finish like this is so hard and disappointing.
âSunday is a different game and a difficult game at Kilmarnock away.
âWe are down just now, but we are footballers and it is our job to pick ourselves up for Sunday and try and beat Killie. It is hard, but itâs a job we have got to do.â
Agathe still believes that his team-mates can be more than satisfied with their efforts this season and is adamant that they can hold their heads high.
Despite falling at the final hurdle, the Glasgow giants sent Liverpool, Celta Vigo, Stuttgart, Boavista, Blackburn and FK Suduva crashing on route to Seville.
Agathe enthused: âIt was great for the club to be in the UEFA Cup final and itâs a game all the players wanted to play in.
âAny player wants to play in a European final and the club have now restored their name and their pride.â
