United pledge summer funds to Fergie
Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon has promised Alex Ferguson there will be transfer funds available in the summer.
But Kenyon says it will be more a case of the manager “tweaking the squad rather than massively rebuilding it.”
Ferguson’s top target is understood to be a striker.
“There are funds available this year but when you look at our team it is about tweaking rather than massive rebuild,” Kenyon told the Manchester Evening News.
“We will start next season with some new faces.
“Ultimately all I can assure you is the squad that starts next season will be the squad that gets us the Premier League title again and advance us further in Europe.
“We have a very interesting market at the moment. It was very quite last season and there is nothing to suggest it will be fundamentally different this year.
“You have Arsenal saying they only have £10million to spend and a lot of the Italian clubs aren’t in financially good health.
“There is a lot happening in the industry.”
United have been linked with a number of attacking players at home and abroad.
Damien Duff, Harry Kewell, Ronaldinho and Roy Makaay are just a few of the names said to be in the frame.
Ferguson remains guarded. “I know what I want and I will try and improve the squad,” he said.
“It may require one or two new players or maybe two or three.
“At the moment I have no definite plans and nothing is happening.”
