Liverpool finally won at home – their first league win at Anfield since November – and Bolton lost a priceless game in hand in their increasingly desperate relegation battle.

El Hadji Diouf scored a controversial header seconds before the break and Michael Owen added his fourth in four games to settle the points in the second half.

Kevin Nolan came on for Salva and Laville was booked for a foul on Owen before Gerrard was replaced by Salif Diao.
