Everton to make 'significant' announcement

Everton will hold a press conference at Goodison Park at 7.30pm this evening to make a “significant” announcement.

The club revealed yesterday they were confident of securing teenage star Wayne Rooney on a long-term contract, although indications were that the target date for a deal to be done was February 8.

Everton play Charlton that day in what will be Rooney’s next opportunity to wear a blue shirt in first-team action as he is serving a four-match suspension.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Everton Football Club has announced it will hold a press conference of some significance at Goodison Park.”
