Blades end interest in Boro's Windass

Neil Warnock is ready to look elsewhere in his search for a new striker after Middlesbrough confirmed they want “a sizeable fee” for Dean Windass.

Neil Warnock is ready to look elsewhere in his search for a new striker after Middlesbrough confirmed they want “a sizeable fee” for Dean Windass.

Blades boss Warnock was impressed by the forward during a month-long loan spell at Bramall Lane which ended in December and was keen to bring him to Bramall Lane permanently.

“Neil was some way down the line to getting him, but Middlesbrough wanted a sizeable fee for him should we get promoted,” said club spokesman Andy Pack.

“But we would not be prepared to pay a fee and if the deal doesn’t happen this week, Neil will probably look elsewhere.”
