United to face Celtic on summer tour

Manchester United will play Celtic, Juventus and Barcelona on a pre-season tour of America next summer.

The Old Trafford club open their tour against Martin O'Neill's side on July 22 in Seattle.

They then move onto Los Angeles to play Club America, the biggest club in Mexico, five days later.

United then head to the east coast to the New York Giants Stadium where Juventus await on July 31 before Alex Ferguson's side become the first team to play in Philadelphia's new Lincoln Financial Field stadium, against Barcelona.

"Everyone at the club is looking forward to the tour," said United's chief executive Peter Kenyon.

"We'll be taking over all our top players and the quality of the opposition means American fans will get the chance to watch some world-class football.

"We know the sport has a large and passionate following in the States, especially among young people, and we hope the tour generates even more excitement about the beautiful game."
