Manchester United powered back into title contention with a resurgent display that left Arsenal floundering at Old Trafford.

Juan Sebastian Veron fired United into a 22nd-minute lead and then, as they outmuscled and outplayed the defending champions, Paul Scholes rounded off a richly-deserved victory with a flourish near the end.
