United beat Liverpool thanks to Forlan - and Dudek

Manchester United have beaten Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield today thanks to a brace from Diego Forlan - and a howler from Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

Forlan's first came after a dreadful error by Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek midway through the second half.

Dudek dropped a simple catch between is legs, allowing Diego Forlan to simply tap the ball into an empty net from just a yard out.

Forlan's second came after he was fed through by Paul Scholes and Dudek was unable to keep out his powerful shot.

Sami Hyypia gave Liverpool hope with eight minutes to play when he drove home from the edge just inside the United penalty area but this was the best Liverpool could muster.

The result means there are just two points separating Manchester United and Liverpool, while Arsenal enjoy a four point gap at the top of the table.

Manchester United and Liverpool meet next week.
