Wenger: Shaaban's the man
Arsene Wenger hailed new goalkeeper Rami Shaaban as 10-man Arsenal clinched top spot in their Champions League Group with a goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven.
The Arsenal boss then revealed that England veteran David Seaman is definitely out of Saturday's Premiership derby against Tottenham.
It was the first time Gunners had failed to fire on target in 32 matches - a run that stretches back to March when they were knocked out of last season's Champions League with a 1-0 defeat by Juventus in Turin.
But it was also their third consecutive clean sheet and could given Swedish-born Shaaban the edge over England Under-21 keeper Stuart Taylor for the clash with Spurs.
"Seaman is out against Tottenham with his groin injury and now I have to choose between Rami and Stuart," said Wenger.
"But Shaaban looked good. He made an excellent save with his legs early in the second half when we were under some pressure and he was always alert, committed and strong."
Shaaban's performance, saving Patrick Vieira from putting through his own goal with a mis-kick in the opening two minutes, helped Arsenal grab a result which clinched top place in Group A.
Wenger said: "It is good to finish top because I feel we deserved to do it. I don't think it is any great advantage in the second round because we must play some top Spanish and Italian teams whatever happens but we did well, even with 10 men."
Two incidents marred Wenger's night - Kolo Toure being sent off for two yellow cards in eight minutes and a flashpoint when PSV captain Mark van Bommel appeared to be caught on television spitting at Thierry Henry.
"I was aware something was happening but I don't know for sure what van Bommel did to Henry," said Wenger.
PSV coach Guus Hiddink said: "I don't know anything about this but let's not be cissies about it. Players from both sides do things to one another and I suggest you watch the whole tape of the game before picking on just one."
