Hoops continue winning run

Shamrock Rovers 4 Cork City 1

Shamrock Rovers 4 Cork City 1

Rovers strengthened their quest for Europe with a rousing sixth win from their last seven league games.

Noel Hunt began where he left off against Drogheda on Tuesday with the lead goal on five minutes.

Tony O'Dowd's ball over the top caught the City defence napping and Hunt was in to shoot home.

Hunt then set up Trevor Molloy for his first goal on his Rovers return to make it 2-0 on 13 minutes to again punish sloppy Cork defending.

Molloy added a third six minutes before the break with Colin Patrick O'Brien getting one back for City on 63 minutes.

Stephen Grant headed Rovers' fourth goal from a Luke Dimech cross six minutes from the end.
