West Ham striker Paolo di Canio has been given a slap on the wrist by the Football Association following his goal celebrations at Chelsea on Saturday.

The maverick Italian produced a stunning strike early in the second half of the Hammers’ 3-2 victory, and could hardly contain his delight as he jumped around in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful.

The 34-year-old striker also netted what proved to be the winner six minutes from time.

A statement on the FA’s website, www.thefa.com, read: “We can confirm that the FA is aware of Paolo di Canio’s actions and subsequent comments in the Chelsea v West Ham fixture on Saturday.

“The FA has spoken to representatives of West Ham about the matter and Paolo will be advised as to his future conduct.

“The matter is now closed.”
