The Welshman is injured anyway after complaining of soreness in his knee after last Tuesday’s 1-0 home defeat by Feyenoord, but United boss Sir Bobby Robson has no new selection problems.

Teenage goalkeeper Adam Collin and promising striker Michael Chopra are named in the squad, although the manager is likely to keep faith with the bulk of the side which won 2-0 at Birmingham on Saturday evening.
