Liverpool striker Michael Owen answered his critics with a hat-trick as the Reds kept in touch with leaders Arsenal with a victory against Manchester City.

Owen had appeared to be lacking confidence early on this season but put that right at Maine Road against Kevin Keegan’s men, who last lost at home in the league a year ago to the day.
