Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy insists all this summer’s World Cup glories must be forgotten as they embark on the European Championship qualifiers, starting against Russia on Saturday.

After a turbulent start, which saw captain Roy Keane walk out on the squad, the Republic reached the last 16 in the Far East, eventually losing on a penalty shoot-out to Spain.
