Saints late show knocks out Shels

St. Patrick's Athletic 2 Shelbourne 1

St Pat's made it a memorable double over their arch-rivals with a last minute winner from Paul Osam.

Osam got a slight touch to a Martin Russell free-kick to send the ball past Chris Bennion.

That was cruel on Shels who had just equalised a minute earlier when Ollie Cahill dived in to touch home a Stuart Byrne cross.

In a scrappy game, Saints took the lead on 31 minutes from a penalty, as they did in the league game last week.

Ger McCarthy was needlessly fouled by Barry Prenderville and Martin Russell shot home the spot kick.

Shels' frustration boiled over at the end when boss Pat Fenlon was sent from the touchline.
