Burns resigns as chief executive

David Burns today paid the price for his part in the ITV Digital fiasco when he resigned as Football League chief executive.

Burns had been under pressure since August 1 when a High Court judge ruled Carlton and Granada were not liable for the £178.5m (€285m) owed to the League by their now defunct joint venture ITV Digital.

Burns said in a statement: ‘‘I have today by mutual agreement terminated my employment with the Football League.’’

Burns made the announcement at a meeting of the League’s board of directors, which was also attended by chairman Keith Harris, at a London hotel.
