Breen joins Hammers

Irish World Cup star Gary Breen has joined West Ham on a free transfer today.

Breen had been without a club since he was released by Coventry City at the end of last season when he could not agree a new contract.

Breen played a key role at the heart of the defence in Ireland's World Cup run, scoring in the victory against Saudi Arabia.

Breen had been linked with Celtic and Everton. Everton manager David Moyes pulled out of a deal for Breen as they could not agree personal terms.
