Saints call in FIFA over Delgado saga

Southampton have contacted FIFA in a bid to find a solution to the ongoing saga surrounding Agustin Delgado.

Southampton have contacted FIFA in a bid to find a solution to the ongoing saga surrounding Agustin Delgado.

The Ecuadorian forward has not shown up for pre-season training at the St Mary’s stadium after being quoted in Ecuador as saying he would not return to the Barclaycard Premiership.

‘‘We have contacted FIFA through the FA, so they can help us to bring back the player, and to listen to suggestions about what we can do,’’ said Southampton secretary Brian Truscott.

Saints have already fined Delgado two weeks wages for his no-show but are still waiting for the player to make contact.

Delgado arrived in England last November, but a knee injury saw him play only a few minutes for the club.

He was allowed to go back to his country to recover and play for Ecuador in the World Cup but since then he has failed to return to England.
