Moyes hails 'Nigeria's best'

Everton boss David Moyes has described new signing Joseph Yobo as the best player for Nigeria at the World Cup.

The Toffees yesterday completed a deal with Marseille for Yobo, who joins on an initial 12-month contract with an option of a further four years, for a fee that could eventually rise to £5m (€7.8m).

The club has already lodged an application for a work permit and expect to hear a positive response in the next seven to 10 days.

The 21-year-old defender will now return to Nigeria for some well-earned rest following his World Cup duties and will join up with his new colleagues when they return from their Austrian training camp next week.

Moyes is delighted Yobo has agreed to join Everton and told the club’s official website, www.evertonfc.tv: ‘‘As far as I’m concerned, he’s Nigeria’s best player and I’m sure he’ll go on to captain his country.

‘‘He played in several different positions for his country in the World Cup which gives us a great opportunity to use him just where we see fit. He’s also got terrific pace and he’s a good all-round player.’’
