Les Bleus have faith Zidane will be ready
France maestro Zinedine Zidane’s team-mates are ready to share his workload and run some of his errands for him if he returns for tomorrow’s all-important World Cup clash with Denmark.
The French team doctors are thought to have already given Zidane the all-clear, but coach Roger Lemerre insists it is up to the player himself to say that ‘‘he is fit’’.
The decision is expected in private tonight, but it is unlikely to be made known until tomorrow morning.
France left-back Bixente Lizarazu is already convinced the Real Madrid star will play after being
sidelined for two weeks with a torn thigh muscle.
‘‘I am sure he will play against Denmark even if he is not 100 %, others can do the running for him,’’ said Lizarazu today.
‘‘He does not need to be 100% to hit quality balls like we know he can do and he is not needed in a defensive capacity.’’
Centre-back Philippe Christanval is convinced Zidane’s return would give the defending World Cup champions a ‘‘huge boost’’.
‘‘It will always be difficult without him - a player such as him can make a difference in an instant,’’ he said.
Another France defender, Lilian Thuram, pointed out that Les Bleus, after losing their opening game to Senegal and drawing the second against Uruguay, must beat Denmark by at least two goals to qualify for the last 16.
‘‘I hope that we will be up to the hype,’’ he said,’’ but I believe in us 100% that we can qualify.
‘‘I do not imagine us returning home after tomorrow’s game.’’
