Inamoto's gunner go after World Cup
Arsenal have released Japanese World Cup sensation Junichi Inamoto on a free transfer.
The Premier League has officially confirmed the availability of the 22-year-old, who secured his country's first win at the finals with the only goal against Russia in Group H on Sunday.
Inamoto also scored in Japan's opening 2-2 draw against Belgium, and was deservedly named man of the match in both games.
But he was unable to establish himself at Arsenal following his £4million move from Gamba Osaka in July 2001, failing to make a league appearance as the Londoners clinched the Premiership and FA Cup double.
The Gunners have yet to confirm Inamoto's release, despite reports the player was informed of the decision before the finals began.
However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may already be regretting his decision, having watched Inamoto guide Japan to the top of Group H and within touching distance of the second round. They will qualify for the last 16 if they avoid defeat against Tunisia on Friday.
He told the Japanese press after Monday's win over Russia: "I can't ignore his contribution. He's changed.
"Not only has he become a very good player but he's become someone who can play well under pressure and take responsibility. Congratulations to him - it was fantastic."
