FAI: External review of World Cup controversy
The Football Association of Ireland has announced that it will commission an independent review of its preparations for the World Cup once the competition is over.
In a statement today, the FAI said that 'an independent, external review of the association’s organisation and involvement in World Cup 2002' would be carried out .
The review follows the Roy Keane controversy which dogged Ireland’s pre-tournament preparations in Saipan.
Keane was eventually sent home after criticising the FAI and Mick McCarthy over the state of the training pitch, the travel arrangements and the delay in getting equipment delivered to Saipan.
