Official World Cup website gets 80m hits in a day

The official World Cup website has scored 80 million hits in one day.

Fifa had to power up its site after the opening day of the tournament when 34 million pages were viewed.

The figure reached 79.7 million on Monday. This is thought to be a record for any sports-related site.

The Mirror says the figures have far outweighed expectations.

The site is available to view in seven languages.
